Uh oh - no 4wd low

Well I am officially ****** at myself because I just tonight decided I should probably make sure the 4wd of my new truck works and I have discovered that the truck does not do anything in 4lo. It does not move at all when I put it in 4lo! This is not a front axle not engaging thing - it is like the transfer case is not going into 4lo at all. I am fairly mechanical and I have torn into transfer cases before but I have not heard of one that works in 2hi, 4hi but not 4lo?

When I have it in the N or 4lo position and put the gearshift in park there is a slight grinding sound too - wierd?

What could be the problem here?

Are you sure its going far enough into 4lo, and not staying in neutral?

I think the grind when putting it in park is fairly normal. All the auto's I've driven and needed 4lo have done that when they didn't engage and stayed in neutral.

Nobody has any input on my issue with not 4 low? I have been playing with the linkage and I still cannot seem to get the truck into 4 low and it is really starting to bug me at this point. It seems to be in N but never actually engaging the 4 low. What could be the issue here?

The previous owner tells me he never even tried 4 low in the year he owned it so he was baffled too.

PLEASE HELP!

if you are pulling the shifter all the way back and its not going into 4lo, then you may need to adjust your linkage more than you have already.

My 4lo works, but sometimes its a little tricky because of the auto tranny.

Does the 4WD light come on when you shift into 4LO?

I think you are only going into neutral with the t-case. The griding you are hearing when going into park is the park lock trying to engage. When the t-case is in neutral and the tranny is in gear it allows the shafts inside the tranny to turn which would normally be held from turning by the brakes. It is basically like trying to put it in park when you are not at a stop.

The light does come on but it is acting like it is in Nuetral. I may end up just bringing it in and having it looked at because I am baffled.

Why don't you just pull it off and split it and see if everything is working. You did say you have been into them before. Besides, there really isn't much to them.
