TV Cable?

I have a 98 auto that is shifting too fast. I hit 3rd by about 18-20mph under light throttle. It will still hit 3rd by about 28-30mph WOT. I just tried to adjust my TV cable, but it seems to be maxed out already. Pushing the sheath back towards the tranny is the correct direction to make the truck shift later? Let me know if I'm screwing this up.

If the TV cable is maxed out is there andy thing else to adjust without tearing into that tranny?

Thank you.

At WOT the lever on the trans should be at its furtherest travel. Have someone floor the pedal and check it.I got a new cable at dodge when mine had a frayed cable for around 50$. My truck was upshifting to fast also and I adjusted it for furtherest travel and fixed the problem. Im not sure but I htink I had to slide the sheath rearwards almost to the point where it would not stay clamped in the bracket. I have read the cable will stretch out so this could be the problem your having.

How hard was it to replace? Do you have to drop the tranny pan?

if you need a new cable its not hard to change at all ,,,, try bending the brkt at the trans to the rear will help it not shift so soon

Well, I put a new TV cable on and still shifting early. I set it to start to move the lever at the tranny as the throttle is starting to move. I even adjusted it to make there be about 1/4" travel on the transmission while the throttle is not depressed any. Still shifts late. Maybe the valve body is just crappy?

You can change out the 1-2 2-3 **** springs if you want. Really easy to do. Just call any good tranny shop and ask for differ rate springs. You are moving the cable in the correct direction. Normal rule of thumb is to put to pedal to the floor and you should have about 1/8-1/4 inch pay in the KD lever. NO more than 1/4 though.
