Turbo Wastegate Shaft Question
Hey guys, I have a BD Super "B" Special turbo, and I noticed that the wastegate actuator shaft was bent. I took off the wastegate actuator, and noted that while the actuator shaft moves side to side I could not push in the actuator diaphragm by hand. I even tried putting the wastegate actuator in my bench vise, but still could not push in the shaft to move the actuator diaphragm! I have to assume that the wastegate diaphragm unit is probably bad. I went ahead and ordered a new BD waste gate from XDP.
BOTTOMLINE - Also, while the wastegate shaft movement on the turbo seems to move freely, I noticed that I can only rotate the wastegate shaft linkage about 1/4". Does this sound right? It seems like the wastegate shaft should rotate further than this. However, It does not appear to be binding and this limited movement is very free and I can rotate it by hand easily. Thanks for input ahead of time! |
You can test the actuator with compressed air, 50 psi max
The spring that keeps the wastegate closed is very strong, I've never been able to open one with just my hands. |
