Turbo question Am I OKAY? Looks Cracked
 

I dont know what is going on. I pulled off my Scotty II last night to clean it and noticed a few things.

1. My Turbo looks like it has Hair line cracks on it.

the top photo looks like more of a scratch from a screwdriver balde than a crack to me, i may be wrong though, hard to judge from the photo. take some fine emery paper and go over the area, if it disappears it is a scratch, if it is a crack you will most likely still see it. As for the melted end I have no guesses as to why

I looked really good at it, thinking the same thing but it just looks cracked. I noticed that the flang has some fine lines in it, is this to hold the air intake in place from slipping around?

i would guess that the fine line marks that you see are machining marks from when the compressor housing was made.

It must have gotten hot to melt the Scotty.
Is your pyro pre or post turbo?

My Pyro is Pre Turbo. I use my Dodge to tow, its over alot of 10-12,000 foot Mnt Passes. The last time I went out I was pushing her hard, never let the EGT's get above the 1200 mark and when they did I would feather the gas to take them down. I did notice one really odd thing after pushing that hard, on the down side I had a ton of White smoke. I thought that there was something wrong with my truck it had so much white smoke. I spoke with a buddy who is in to Cummins and he said his 24valve did it all the time, he said it never hurt anything.

I just spoke with Andy and we know what happened here.

Anytime I would sell a clear unit I made sure it was not the thin demo plastic.

Its apparent to me that when he got it from wildcat that is was the wrong unit. There where 6 units made that where for in house demo only that I did not want to have in anyones inventory. This was one that got out.

If there was a problem with the turbo, there would be a melted turbo inlet hose before a correct Scotty unit would melt.

There is a first time for everything and this is the first I have seen of this. I know why now too.

Solution: Send Andy a complete new intake. Problem solved.

Andy, you have a hose on the truck that looks like it has several cracks in it...to the left of the pyro probe.

Thank you so much for calling me back and taking care of me. I am sorry that your dealing with someone else's mistake, I thought it was something that heated up and was my problem. I never thought the unit was bad until we spoke today. I should have never had a Display Model on my truck and its not your doing, it was Wildcat and he is no longer around. Again thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty to make a customer 1000% happy:D

If you melt this new one...I would say we have to look at what is doing that. [laugh] :o

Glad the problem is solved. If it was a crack in the housing, a good way to tell would be from a whack with a screwdriver handle when the inlet hose is off. The sound would tell you if it was cracked. Kevin

I would.. I haven't noticed the same thing. It may be a symptom of something else. White smoke is usually coolant or cold fuel. :confused:

White smoke under load can be due to low fuel pressure.
Clean/replace the filters or replace the overflow valve.
