Truck won't rev then dies then need to bleed to start again
I don't even know where to start a search on this. My 93 1 ton was first exhibiting signs of a clogged fuel filter (Loss of power, chugging with smoke on accelleration) So I nursed it home and changed the filter. It at first seemed to be the cure but when I continued to drive around the same symptoms appeared and it even died at an intersection. I had to bleed it to get it started. I've traced everything down the line looking for a source of air and it all looks good. The truck will actually idle fine but when you go to rev it up it will eventually die and will need to be bleed to get it to start. It bleeds and starts pretty readily but will die again with any hard acceleration. I have had the upgraded piston pump on for several thousand miles and every thing pumps well right up to the IP. Could something be wrong internally in the IP that would allow it to idle but not feed fuel on acceleration and cause it to starve and pull in air? If I rev it up from idle for about five seconds and let off it will still die so I am thinking it is pulling in air from somewhere it has pulled enough of a negative vacuum that it can't recover to an idle. How would you guy's diagnos this problem and where else should I look? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Don.
Wow I was just getting on here to tell everyone what it was and you happen to hit it right on the head. I wish I had seen your reply sooner. People of DTR clean out the pre filter screens in your piston LP's mine was severely crudded up in just less than a year. I was not even aware that there was one in the pump but something told me to try taking it apart on the vice. I couldn't even blow through the inlet pipe. Here are some pictures, your are looking at the backside of the inlet pipe.
