Transmission problems, who knows alot about the nv4500?

Hey everybody.

97-NV4500- My transmission sounds like someone is playing the tamborine under the truck, and now is starting to shudder, the shudder I can hear more than feel, but it has a bit of a shakey feel, cant really feel it in the drivetrain.

Also this things been leeking, I think between it and the t-case, I topped it up the other day but with the cost of the oil you need for this thing I dont want to be feeding this trans and my garage floor this oil for long.

Can anyone tell me where the problem is based on my poor description?

As well, how hard is it to rebuild these things? I can order a rebuild kit and tear it apart myself, but if I have to press bearings or races on and off I will just take it to a shop in calgary. :(

Yup, a press is involved. You can get it most of the way down, but getting the gears off the main shaft requires a press. Can't help on the tambourine noise.
