Time to replace diff bearings
 

Hello all. The rear in my 93 started to make a bad noise so I started by replacing the wheel (outside) bearings. One was showing not great and they've both gone the same distance ;), so?? No difference. Now in we go, pinion seemed to have some play so I ordered new pinion bearings and when we got into the diff, they were fine, but the right side bearings were toast. UGGLLYY. Since the diff was open any way I had the pinion bearings done too. Might as well all be new. It looks like oil was low, but it never has been since I got this truck in 97. Its never been submerged either but they were cooked. <br>Question; Is 10 hours a reasonable time to replace the pinion and side bearings in a Spicer 70 or did I pay 4- 5 hours of education time for a mechanic? Just wondering. BTW the work took place over a 13 day span due to parts delays (my fault, I own the parts store), emergency repairs for harvest,etc. Sure did miss that CTD. Thanks, Rick

I replaced all the bearings, wheel &amp; diff, a couple of weeks ago. Took me 12 hours including 4 trips to the parts store, hammering the bearingis in and out by hand, sterilizing the diff housing, cleaning everything, making a tool to hold the pinion yoke and searching through the grass for two rear axel bolts my five year old wondered off with. Did I mention I had never pulled a diff before?<br><br>I would say with the right tools the whole job should take 5-6 hours tops.<br><br>Jay

It depends I guess on how much a shop charges per hour. I was charged $350 labor to have my Dana 80 rebuilt in my 96
