Thin Injector Washer Size?
Can anybody tell me how thick the thin injector washers are? I'd like to pick some up locally and want to make sure I get the right ones.
Thanks |
The thin washers are .020.

NOT trying to hijack this, just same type of question.
Are the washers the only thing needed to install differant injectors? I know thet they can not be reused, but would like to know why they cant and if their is anything else that someone would need??? What if the old washer was ground down to .020?? thanks |
Thanks Ponci
Sharp - You'll need some return line washers as well. Make sure you clean up the return line mating surfaces with some emery paper to prevent leaks. The reason for not re-using the injector washers is that they become misshaped due to slight imperfections in the head and/or injector body. They are, in effect, a gasket. The manufacturer would have to machine each injector and each injector bore in the head to very high tolerances to achieve a perfect sealing surface. The cost of doing this would be far greater than using a copper washer. |
Don't automatically assume thin washers, or thick ones for that matter, are what you need. The depth of the injector tip into the cylinder determines the radius of the spray pattern. The washer thickness adjusts this, not all injectors need the same thickness washer and it's impossible to figure it out on your own.
The only way to determine the washer thickness for your particular injector is to ask the vender or manufacturer. |

The only way to determine the washer thickness for your particular injector is to ask the vender or manufacturer. I've installed stock rebuilt 215's. I get a fair bit of hazing at idle until the truck is completely warmed up. My plate is in the stock position. The Gov lever hits the plate right at the bottom tip. Timing is at 15.5. The O/F valve was changed 2 years (30K km) ago. I can lay down a pretty good cloud of smoke right through the RPM range. I'm trying to get my mileage up a bit. From what I've read, the thinner washers are supposed to give you a better spray pattern. Do you know what size washers usually come with stock 215's? Thanks |
thin washers are on the 215 injectors at least the 4 sets i've pulled. call haisley machine they sale them for 50 cents each
|
Does Haisley sell the return line gaskets as well??
|
i'm sure they do just call them and ask

50 cents a piece is dirt cheap. I ordered 6 yesterday for a customer's rock drilling machine with a 6c in it, the washers from Cummins n/w were $3.25 EACH, I asked "each?" he said "yes, $3.25 each" WOW!
