Talking Steering Gear Box Stabilizer Brace

I'm not promoting the following link, but would like to find honest comments on the item in comparison with higher price components.

How about this?

That piece looks like its made from a single piece of plate run through a brake, whereas the more expensive ones are made from hollow square tubing. And the flange where the pillow block mounts is only attached along one edge, so it twisting would be more of an issue. And that is exactly what the brace is trying to prevent.

I think it should work nicely because the angled part seems to go far enough over the frame. So the bending should not be an issue. Some other stabilizers have square tubing but only flat plate "ears" welded onto the end, so they will flex too.
I have tried both versions, but never really noticed any difference while driving- but I always really noticed the improvement over stock!

Just my 2c

I installed this brace 2 years ago and it was one of the best investments/ improvements to my '01. I did the stearing box at the same time, so a lot of slop was eliminated at the same time. Installation was simple as it uses the sway bar mounting holes. It is heavier than it looks in the picture.

I put one on my truck about two months ago. I cant say it made a world of difference but I think its good preventive maintenance. It should make the steering box last much longer.

I too put one on about two months ago.
I am running my original steering box.
I have to admit that it made a big difference.
Previously I had a lot of wandering and was constantly sawing back and forth to stay in the right lane.
The install was not quite as easy as suggested and it didn't come with any directions or tips.
The cap that you screw on your steerbox is a very tight fit through the bearing and I'm not sure how I will get it off.
The piece is heavy so if you are doing it by yourself, get a friend to help. Aligning the steering post with the sway bar holes etc all at the same time was a pain.
In retrospect I should have replaced the steering box at the same time but I would recommend this if you are experiencing slop in you box.

Just installed a steering brace from Custom Diesel's ebay store. It did make a difference, but not as much as I had hoped for. It took away a lot of the floating feeling I was getting whenever I would travel done rough roads. I still have to do too much correcting on rough roads though. I believe my next step will be poly trailing arm bushings and a good alignment(went through everything else). There has got to be a way to get these trucks to steer at least somewhat reasonably.

Overall though, I think it was 110$ well spent and would definitely recommend installing one. I had absolutely no trouble installing it, took maybe 45 min tops...

Angle or square tubing are both plenty strong.
Check ebay, I installed one for a fellow who bought one from there that cost $79, free shipping that looked just like the $200 BD support on my own truck

Is this brace is the same one as my friend told me to get years back that will help prevent the box from breaking off the frame?
