starter or ignition

Hi guys , here's my problem. Sometimes when I go to start my truck (98 12v) it may start right up or it might turn over a few times then stop turning over. I immediatly try it again and it may or may not start, try it again and then it does. I'm pretty sure it's either starter or ignition related but I suppose it could be some kind of relay. Any help would be apreciated, thanks.

If the starter turns over sometimes then just clicks others then its most likly the solenoid contacts in the starter. Mine went bad earlyer this year and it did the same thing, its a cheap/easy fix. there are many places to buy, just an example of the parts.

Way to test if it's wiring key switch or starter is when it's acting up the put the truck in N, key on, crawl under and short the large and small starter connectors together.
If it starts your starter might be fine.

I buy contacts here, heavier duty than the ones you get elsewhere http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

If you are buying from Larry B - pick up this:

and this as well and all will be good:

Bad battery cables can show themselves in odd ways. You might want to check them, if your starter is good.

Well it was definatly the starter, it looked pretty bad inside. I did order the contact kit but then the starter packed it in and I had to buy a new one. It works great (bosch). I might try to fix my old starter or just keep them for the bosch. Thanks for the help.
