Smoked a chevy (literally)
 

I have a 95 5spd 4x4, I think the owner before turned up the pump cause it pours out the black smoke if I tromp on it, anyway on the the story.

Was coming home to Carlisle PA from an awsome day of riding four wheelers In Edinburg VA. I was on I-81 and I think I had just crossed the line into PA, I was in the fast lane doin bout 72-73 with two four wheelers one in the bed another on a small 10` trailer. Passing a car, when this chevy pickup decides to start pushing me, he got right up behind me and then starts giving me the headlight >:( it was about 9 p.m. So I droped the hammer, turbo started screamin`, just removed the silencer ring a week ago ;) ;D I was at first just looking at the speedo and tach. then my friend said, um smoke, I looked in the mirror and saw a stedy stream of smoke coming out. I dont know what color the only way I knew it was there was because of the headlights behind me and that made it look more than it probley was. I was up to about 85 and the chevy was still right behind me but smoke got worse the faster I went and he couldnt take it anymore around 90 or so. I looked back and saw what looked like a haze between us. Oh it was great. ;D

90 mph pulling a light, small 10' trailer?!!! :o Were both of the wheel touching the ground at the same time or was it hopping from one side to the other?

i bet the wheel bearings on that little trailer were screaming for mercy!<br><br>btw, I've noticed that my smoke looks way worse at night

That's the same image I had after reading the post. Or better yet - Remember Mr Bill on Saturday Night Live? He went camping and attached his trailer to the back of Mr Hand's car. We'll to make a long story short, the trailer was spinning around in circles behind the car. Oooohhhh Nooooo!

Both tires were on the ground and it was tracking pretty well. I wasnt at 90 (estimate) for all that long just enough to get the chevy off my A$$ and move over to the slow lane.<br><br> Trailer stright behind the bumper tires not touching the ground ;D hahahaha ;D

Gahds man. Towing or not anything over 80mph in my truck and the road gets way too narrow! :o

Jbolt,<br>Sounds like you have a problem with your steering. I have run 80-85 mph for hours on the open road and never felt like I was having to dance the wheel to keep her in the lane.

They are the only multi purpose tire I have found that will last 3 to 4 seasons, off road well and does not cost a small fortune. The down side I guess is that over 80mph the truck starts to feel light on its feet but thats okay. 70-75 is just right.<br><br>Jay

I have run BFG A/Ts in 33-12.50 on my 78 W200 in the past. You're right, tires that size get to be a handful at higher speeds. The biggest problem I had was that the BFGs wore much quicker than I would have liked and they cost mucho $$$$. For the on-road ride and off-road grip they are the best combination I have come across. <br><br>I forget that my 2WD CTD is a different beast than the 4WD ones. The ride and handling are subtlety but noticably different. My next truck will be a 4WD though. The wife even says that we should trade in the Jaguar and let her drive the 4WD CTD ;D ;D

Yeah my first set of A/Ts on this truck were BFGs. I got a whopping 18k out of them. Tried a set of Dunlops, got 20k. These cheapie Sport Kings (now Fisk) last 40k or more. Not bad for A/Ts that are driven on the street 90% of the time. <br><br>Jay
