most don't seem to hold up well to higher hp trucks, especially the gear vendors.
98rammer:
I have had one in my truck for 100K miles with no problem. The factory says they are good for up to 1100 ft. lbs torque.
IMO they are a pretty good product.

Re:Six Speed Conversion
An Exhaust brake will ruin the Gear Vendors OD in short time.
A U.S. Gear OD would be much better for Exhaust brake use, as the Gear Vendors is just a miniature auto tranny.
Neither the U.S. Gear, or Gear Vendors is a gear slitter. It is only an O.D.
You cannot make your 5-speed a 10-speed with these units.
Last I heard U.S. Gear is working on the proper ratio to make it a gear splitter, and O.D. instead of just an O.D.

AFAIK, that's only true for the USG. My GV, & AFAIK, all other GV's are splitters. That's why you'll often see *pick-a-gear*-OVER in discussions of the GV.
One other drawback (if you can call it that -- not for me) is the fact that it's mounted AFTER the xfr case so can't be used in 4WD. Non-issue for my use. OTOH, the USG is mntd btwn the xfr case & tranny so CAN be used in 4WD.

Re:Six Speed Conversion
im not interested in the overdrive....im wanting the six speed because of the bigger input shaft so we dont have to put the big input shaft in a 4500.
