keep trying, i got mine out after about 1000 tries. i used a small pocket screwdriver under the beveled end of the lock ring and then got another screwdriver under it and it shot out over my right shoulder.

I did mine in 15 seconds using the two screwdriver method. but I've removed snap-rings a bunch in the past, so it just comes second nature

does it make any more power or just sound?
or both?

I read somewhere about bad pressures that can hurt the turbo after the ring is removed? any truth to this?

Just more turbo whistle. No power increase or decrease, and no mileage increase or decrease.

According to Holset, it's an inlet baffle. I used to think it was simply to reduce sound, but since I've seen it on bigger holsets (HX40s, 50s, 55s) I believe it actually smooths out the flow into the compressor. More laminar flow should increase compressor efficiency.

But I still run without one

The silencer ring can also (I've heard) inhibit flow from the MWE on turbos with small exhaust housings.

i read on cummins' website that it was a sound issue with chrysler. they put the silencer ring in to help reduce whistle from the turbo.

Apparently I've removed too many C-clips growing up on the farm cause that was a piece of cake. Took me longer to get the intake tube off. I didn't notice all that much difference except that I can hear the turbo spool earlier and I lost some of the turbo whistle. I'll probably be used to it by the time I make the drive to skool tomorrow...
