safe engine cleaner/oil leak search

drip, drip, drip everwhere. feel like all my gaskets are bad and its time. cant tell where the oil is really coming from. is spraying the motor down with a degreaser/cleaner recommendable to find out where these leaks are coming from? what is a safe one to use? i remember a ways back some 'simple green' horror story.

I've always had good results with lightly spraying the cool engine and bay with regular kerosene. Let it sit for an hour and strike it all with a pressure washer.

I have been cleaning my engine compartments for years with much success. Find a local self serve car wash. Spray your motor down with Purple Power all purpose cleaner. Simple Green tends to etch unpolished aluminum parts. If you feel the need, wrap the alternator or any other items with a bag or plastic saran wrap. Spray the engine down once again with the apc, remember to get under the truck and hit the lower portion of the motor. Using the high pressure hose, rinse/spray the motor and compartment area, keeping from directly spraying the alternator and nearby electrical components.

purple' something cleaner?
I use Castrol Super Clean, purple stuff in a purple jug from Napa.
Spray it on and let sit from a few minutes then rinse.
Since I've been using Super Clean I hardly ever use my pressure washer any more, just hose pressure is enough.

thank you. i did just that today and pin pointed leaks. i had 2 that i know of today. 1 fuel, 1 oil. fuel leak was at the thing that comes out of the motor (or bolted onto the motor) right before going into the prefuel filter. it had 2 bolts, i cranked them down and stopped the fuel leak. -what is that thing anyway? i was freaking out because the leak was dripping off the breather tube. it looked like fuel was coming from the breather tube when if fact it was coming from above dripping on the oil pan ledge and finding its way down the breather tube. i know what it means when fuel is coming from breather tube, so i was quite relieved when i found it wasnt.
the oil leak i havent fixed yet, cause i dont know how..it's coming from the plastic oil filler tube right at the part where it goes into the motor (or timing case -i think). can i tighten this one? i got the tube to move left and right by unbolting the braket. does it unscrew? gasket?
thanks.

Semi-emergency

thank you infidel. so the fuel leak is back. so from what i understand, its the mounting bracket to the prefilter/heater? i need a quick fix today (sat) nothing open. i have some gasket material, can i pull it off and make my own gasket? or is this a huge project. seems like it just getting to the darn thing. can fuel be leaking at the mounting bracket? what will happen when i pull it off? MUCH appreciated, semi -emergency.
