my 99 dodge is charging funny the volts go up and down from 11.3 to 14.6 volts when the truck is warming up or has just run for less than a hour ,is this a battery prblem or alternater? responned as iam on the road should i be worried or not?

 

The brushes in the alt. are intermitenly making contact. My truck did that for about 5000 miles before I had time to buy the repair kit from fostertruck.com. It also did it after I installed the kit till the new brushes seated themselves. If It bugs you you could stop and buy an alt. Just be prepared for a hefty price.

That is normal! The Intake air heater is cycling on and off to help in warm up.

 

If it is the heater grid solenoid you will here a click when it goes up and down. For it to do that for an hour after running it would need to be -10f or lower outside. Either way it is not pressing to the piont of panic. If it doesn't do it when the weather is mild then it is the heater grid relay working correctly. If it persists it is the alt. brushes.
