Rim size 8" what will fit?

I have some aftermarket rims on my truck that are 8 inches wide. I have 285's on them and though the truck looks good with that tire sze I do not like the performance/feel of them. I also prefer a narrower tire for its rolling resistence and performance in snow, generally quieter running etc.

What is the smallest width I can fit on these rims? I am open to going to a rim that is closer to stock width if I can trade out the Micky Thompson's.

I want a taller/narrower tire like a 235/85 or maybe 255/85(?).

I know I can get this info from a good tire shop but want to know ahead of time so I can pick through the BS.

Thanks

Big Jimmy

You should have no trouble finding someone that will trade you for the stocker chrome rims (6.5" wide)...

Thanks- I'm not sure I want to go back to the stock pressed steel.

A narrower rim, yes, but not the stock steel!!

The 255/85 will fit on your 8' wheels and should be a 1/4" tall then the 285/75s. Both tires are around 33" tall with the 255 being a little taller of the 2. The wheel width for the 255/85 is a 6.5" to 8" wheel.

The best way to get this info the the tire makers web sight.

Maybe this will help even more. I copied it from the Kelly tire web sight. What ever brand of tire you are looking at they should have a web sight with the info for their tires and sizes available.

Hope this helps, Rodney

I have seen

235/85/16 on 16 x 8 inch rims, It looks horrendous.. Like a donut fat on the middle and too skinny on the outside. A 255/ or 265 will fit 8 in rims just perfect. They came with 265's outta the factory in 01 i believe?
