replaced head gasket now low on power

This is the story I replaced the head gasket in my truck witch was not as bad as it looks got it all back togeather and now it dont have near the power it did befor. it takes a long time to build boost like it is low fuel pressure but i didnt mess with the fuel side other than changing the fuel filter and wire brushing the injectors it will get to 35 psi but it takes forever:( some of the stuff i have check is turbo piping and clamps cracked all the injector lines while running star wheel still forward a touch replaced the fuel filter again

did you go with a stock gasket or a marine gasket? a fuel plate and gsk would really wake it up.

Check valve lash again.

I wonder if you have a valve hanging open a little?

ttcfan4476 04-21-2009 09:28 PM

i was wondering if i should run the over head again oh and checked the shut down solenoid lookks good to me

Crimedog 04-21-2009 11:17 PM

Are you getting lots of smoke or no smoke at all? I wonder if maybe wire brushing the injectors may have scarred a few holes or possibly plugged them up?

ttcfan4476 04-22-2009 06:55 AM

no smoke at all

Did you remember the boost signal line from the head to the AFC? Low power/no smoke sounds like an AFC issue to me.

ttcfan4476 04-22-2009 05:40 PM

checked it out tonight the line to the afc is on. i pulled a couple of the valve covers and number three exhaust i can get 26 thousandths in it hot i think i need to run the overhead again that was just one that i checked

ttcfan4476 04-25-2009 08:34 PM

ran the overhead today and still no power now it is getting hard to start

johnh 04-25-2009 10:54 PM

it's too late now, but you should never touch the injectors....... leave the cleaning to the pro's that have the proper equipment

Tate 04-25-2009 11:32 PM

Pull the foot out of the AFC to see if you get your fuel back. If it runs much better, then I would start looking at leaking diaphragm, kinked/leaky boost line, etc.

What do mean by wire brushing? Was it a wire wheel on a bench grinder by any chance?

ttcfan4476 04-26-2009 12:01 AM

it was a wire wheel on a right angle grinder

You might have brushed the holes shut.

Or threw metal particles in the holes.

Not a good idea to do that.

Might want to bench test them.

ttcfan4476 04-26-2009 06:33 PM

well instead of taking them out and going 70 miles to the nearest diesel shop i bought stage 2 100hp sticks i will try them hopefully this solves my problem i think the hard starting is the starter draggin
