rebuild a 98 12v 3500 ? holy grail? or parts?

picked up a repo,d 98 1 ton drw xcab 5spd 215hp 4x4. 180k miles. 913 pump isnt painted so i guess its been off at some point.owners gutted interior an stole radiator, i/c, a/c cond. front gear cover. they were trying to steal pump i think but were too dumb to figure it out . anyway im mainly a 1st gen guy. is the nv4500 upgraded from earlier trans? top looks different than nv4500 swapped in my old ford. is the t-case heavy duty version? tempted to use parts to build another old ford but i found a cheap 2wd 98 12v with all the parts i need to rebuild the 4x4. its an auto though but i might swap the whole cab and put clutch and steering column in it. how hard to get wiring all right? help/advice aprecciated!

Find you a junked 1500 gasser of same year with same cab and interior color. All the interior parts will interchange. Some of the AC parts may interchange, but don't hold me to that one. Someone really messed up the dash in mine putting in a radio and this is what I did to scavenge parts.

NV4500 has the newer top case, which IMO, is much better than the older style. Tighter shifting, bolt on shift tower, can put a short shifter in if desired. The t-case should be the NV241DHD, but a quick look at the tag will tell you. Or if it is has PTO cover. The DLD doesn't have the PTO cover.

No, the 5th gear nut wasn't factory "fixed" on any year NV4500.

It's a luck of the draw. I have torn some trannys out that have a white locktite in place and couldn't break them apart with a 3ft breaker bar and fat kid standing on it. Most didn't seem to have any loctite, but I wish I could find what that white thread locker is.
