No crank

Moved the truck last week and went to start it after putting new battery cables on all the way around. No crank. Jumped the starter and it fired right up. No power on the little wire. Jumped terminals 30 and 87 on the relay and still got no response. Ignition/ run fuse ohmed good too. I was removing wiring from an old snow plow and salt spreader setup from this truck last week. It started fine and I moved it to where it is now. Baffles my mind. Any ideas where to start looking in the cab?

You say no power on the little wire. Did you check for power with the key in the "start" position?

I am not familiar with your model of Ram, so can only take a wild guess and give you a generic answer. The fact that you jumped the starter and it cranked seems to indicate a good starter and a bad solenoid. Have seen some solenoids where the little wire needs to be grounded through the switch. Others need 12 volts via the ignition switch. Suggest that you first try grounding the little wire at the solenoid. If that does not work, briefly apply 12 volts. If there is only one small wire going to the solenoid and not two, then are you sure that the solenoid case is properly grounded? If neither work, then jump the two big wires on the solenoid. If that works, then that is a pretty good indication that your solenoid is kuput. Of course you could also have a bad ignition switch, but let's ignore that for now.

Let us know what you did to eventually fix the problem.

Sounds like the classic either park-neutral or clutch safety switch issue.

I forgot about that common issue. Thanks for reminding me. Let's hope that the OP comes back with the fix to educate all of us.

Well it turns out the small wire to the starter had a nick in the coating which allowed the wire to corrode. When I put the new battery cables in it must have fatigued enough to fail shortly after lol new wire, fires right up like a champ!
