Question on NV4500 gear oil

What are you guys using for gear oil in these now that the Syntorq is no longer available and how many miles have you been using it? I've been looking around on the Web and been getting conflicting information and mixed reviews on the Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple.

I just scored a used NV4500 out of a U Pull It yard for $230 for my crew cab project. It came out of a 97 2500 with 220k on the odometer so I would like to change the oil in it plus I lost some when I pulled it out.

I've only run the stuff from mopar, still seems to be available for $20 ish per quart. I got mine from a unknown mileage donor (pretty grimy), threw new bearings in it and has been perfect for 100k miles on 2 oil changes. First one was right around 10k, second around 50k. All the old fluid came out clean and it shifts nice so I am going to run this batch to 60k if I can. Truck sees some towing, hauling, plowing etc.

I don't know where it is available to you, it's been discontinued and no longer available from the dealers.

Been using the Redline product which mentions NV4500. Maybe 25K on each of the units with zero known issues. Will find out when I drain it in a few thousand more miles. The OEM fluid hasn't been made for quite some time.

Any major lubricant manufacturer makes alternative oil for that transmission, you just have to go to them and tell them its a NV4500 and they will give you the proper oil, AMSOIL 75W90 for example.

AJ, I still get it from Amazon, both it and the GM equivalent.

Well fooey, it didn't like the link, just search under 4874459, 33.01 a quart right now, pricey, but worth it.
