Preparing for failure

It seems over the past few days. Trans seems to be shuddering a little harder when it goes to lockup especially. Long gone are the days when I could brake torque any time I felt like it.

Im thinking my trans will implode at some point, with my luck sooner than later.
I would like to start Identifying things to have on hand for when it does, or perhaps I will even get to it prior to stranding me somewhere.

Unfortunately, I dont have the cash around to put into a Goerend or ATS deal.
Im looking for someone to tell me if they have been happy with an Ebay special, maybe even just a converter and shift kit. Im open to options.

Ideally, If i can spend under 2K , and be solid enough to continue making power that is where I would like to be.

Not interested in starting any more trans debates, just let me know what inexpensive parts have worked well for you.

You will be money way ahead to have the tranny repaired before it fails.
If the trans disintegrates the system will have to be flushed which at times can become very involved.

I appreciate the advice, and im not afraid of getting my hands dirty. Im interested in specific parts, what has lasted, whether its suprising or not.
End of the day, Id like to get the truck to roll out , but at the same time Im happy as a pig in $&$# if i can just blaze the rear tires while serving up hefty mouthfulls of soot.

Just to let you know my converter just went without warning, everything was fine since I owned it then...it wouldn't move, sent cunks of metal through everything in the trans, so I had to get a whole new unit, plus a new cooler and plumbing lines.
