Power steering leaing/seal
Power steering leaing/seal
My power steering pump leaks. I want to take trip this summer and don`t want the hassel of worrying about the PS pump or leaks.
What does it take to remove the PS pump? The pump is good, but it is leaking. Is there a seal that I can replace to stop the leak?

it will take a couple hours start to finish includes refill and bleed system of air , there is only a couple of bolts that mate the ps pump to the vacuum pump , if you go thru that much trouble put new hoses on while your in there
ther one bolt closest to the engine will be the toughest one , after doing it once and seeing how it goes you will know you can do it faster next time . you will have a flat washer in there tha will have a cross in it ( picture a + sign ) that will have to be lined up , you'll see when you get it apart.

When you say the pump is leaking where is it leaking from? I know that there is a seal on the vacuum pump in between the powersteering pump and the vacuum pump but it will leak motor oil as that is what lubes the vac pump. I have seen more than one do this. So i guess my question is, is it leaking powersteering fluid or motor oil.
If you are going to take out PS and fix it, take the whole Vac/PS assembly out and reseal the Vac pump too. The seal kit is only $10 at cummins and is fairly easy. Also like Diesel Dans says; make sure its the PS leaking and not the Vac pump.
I just had my 1996 steering box seal "fixed". Told a kit was put in & not to hold my breath that it would work. Well less than a week later it is still leaking & I believe the only fix is to remove & have the box rebuilt.
Very nice instructions here http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94...placement.html
