Power steering issues
 

97 Ram 2500 12 valve Cummins. I've now had my hydroboost, power steering pump and steering box replaced twice. All hoses included. Still don't have the power steering I had with the original system. Replaced all originally because I had a leak in the system and am rebuilding the truck from the ground up. I'm still not getting the ease in the steering that I had originally. Maybe half of the expected power while sitting still on concrete. 2 separate mechanics have now been paid to do the job with all new parts each time. Both have said this is as good as it's going to get. Same exact problem both times. Also replaced all ball joints, tie rods, Trac bar, damper. Etc. Hubs were also replaced

When I mechaniced for a living I occasionally found FE components such as ball joints, tierod ends and kingpins so dry and frozen with rust and corrosion that they caused problems such as yours...Check those items and get back to us...[coffee]...Ben

Just updated the original post. The entire front end was rebuilt at the same time
Wondering if maybe the market parts are just garbage. Maybe I need to go thru the factory to get parts if possible. Or try to find actual OEM. These all came from O'Riley

If by "through the factory" you mean a dealership, I very much doubt that front-end parts for a 23 year old truck are still available through the dealer. In any case, they weren't actually made by Dodge/Chrysler Corp to begin with. Moog used to be as good a name as there ever was for front-end parts - a lot of people say Moog isn't what it used to be, though. Dana/Spicer is supposed to have been just as good, but from what I can tell by following merger/divestiture announcements that come up in Google searches, Dana sold off it's chassis-parts line and it eventually wound up under Federal-Mogul, which owns Moog. I cannot find Dana/Spicer ball joints for a 2WD, but I do see them advertised online for some 4WD front-axle models. I don't know if you have a 2WD or 4WD - I don't see a signature line. Since I have a 2WD, those are not of interest - if you have 4WD, you will have to investigate that on your own or see if someone else here has insight on them. I have also heard of other supposedly very high quality (expensive) ball joints for 4WDs if that's your platform. I have heard some good words about Proforged (possibly mfg'd in Taiwan, designed here?) - no personal experience with those, though. Mevotech shows up in RockAuto's "heavy duty" recommendations - I have no first-hand knowledge of them, either. If you don't already know, be aware that often a manufacturer or brand has multiple quality levels, so be sure to get the top line if you can.

Pardon the elementary question - but when you replaced everything, did you bleed the power-steering and hyrdoboost systems properly? How sure are you about the work done by others after you?
