Are you sure that when you installed the pump that the dogs on the shaft fit into the adapter plate in the vacuum pump?

what would cause the dogs on the old PS pump to be chewed up? I do not believe the pump can be bolted up w/o the dogs properly in place or else they could also disengage while driving.

Is it possible for the the vacume pump drive gear/cam gear to move forward and thus disengage the PS pump dog??

Did you make sure the spacers were in place, and did you bleed the air out of the system?
