P7100 removal thread
I have been searching the forums all night and can't seem to find a good write up on the removal of the P7100. I need to replace a leaking tappet cover gasket tomorrow and am trying to find a good article with photos, required tools, etc. to get the IP out of the way. I saw one somewhere but forgot to bookmark it. [duhhh] Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm doing the job away from my shop, so knowing what lies ahead will be of great help. Thanks!

I am sure there is a guide posted on the internet somewhere, I would suggest searching the forums, or google.
As far as tools go, you will need to remove the cam gear. In order to do so you will need a gear puller (snap on has a set, and i'm pretty sure miller does also. Theses sets do not require you to remove the front timing cover (so that would be the quicker way around). It is a pretty straight forward process. There is a mount that holds the pump, after you get motor TDC get timing gear removed you will then move forward w/ intake tubing, injector lines, fuel lines, fuel filter mount, ect. Hope you find what you need, maybe look into a haynes or chilton manual. |
Thanks for checking in. The job is just about complete now (rain delay here), but what I was looking for, and never found, was a step-by-step tutorial with photos. I was a bit surprised because there are quite a few out there for the later generation engines, but seemingly nothing like that for the P7100. Who knows, maybe I just missed something. Thanks again!

LooKing for the same thing, as my pump is making a mystery noise, and is the shitty California pump, so I intend to take it off, and send it out to get checked and tweaked. I've read through some other peoples posts, but would love a start to finish account w pics.

Every thing you need to know about removal is in the factory service manual.
Anyone who wants to do their own work should have one. Only $35 here> http://www.genosgarage.com/products.asp?dept=241 |
I'm a firm believer in FSMs and have purchased one for every vehicle I've ever owned. That said, I always endeavor to find better, smarter ways to get the job done. Why else would any of us use the forums? :D Cheers!
