I bought a 98 12valve 2 wheel drive auto last fall. Not a bad truck, runs well except the overdrive off/on switch is not working.The overdrive does not cancell when its pushed. Its on the end of the gear shift and Im not sure what to look for. Any suggestions please?

 

Push and hold the button for a few seconds.

The connection is under the plastic on the column. You may have to open the column to check the connection.

 

The wires go down through the shifter into the column and I've seen the wires break a couple of times where they flex every time the shifter gets moved. Remove the upper shrouding from the column and have a look at the wire from the shifter down toward the connector. Chances are good you'll see a break.

 

Ok thanks, is the switch supposed to click on and off when its pushed or just a light come on in the dash?

 

Nope it doesn't click. It is just a momentary action switch. It doesn't latch, but sends an impulse to the PCM which then toggles the overdrive state internally.
