Old turbo better than reman.... different wheel??

I have a 1997 2500 2wd 5 spd. it has 249,500 miles on it. timing, #5 plate, 4" turbo back, magnaflow, etc... It ran like crazy... It got 26MPG on the interstate and pulled so hard it spun the wheels in all 5 gears ON DRY PAVEMENT. Undefeated in local dragracing on the streets. well I blew the oem turbo. It just suddenly made a loud whining noise about a mile from home. I limped it home nice and easy and then installed a rebuilt HX35 which looks exactly like my original one. well...the truck still runs out hard, but no longer spins the tires in 5th gear. it is a little weaker turbo than my original one was. My question is this... when the turbos are rebuilt do they usually use the same compressor wheel as the factory does? That is the only reason I can think of why the rerman don't go like the OLD 259K turbo did. Also I did manage to score a used HX35 with supposedly 60K miles on it. how do I tell if it is a reman or not? and what do I look for to determine whether or not it is good to use or not?
Thanks guys.
