oil light flickers.....

1996 2500 automatic 4x4 with 174,000 miles. All stock. In the past few months, I have noticed the low oil light flicker occasionally when stopped, but the gauge reads fine. The oil level is good. Could it be a sending unit? I've had them go bad on other vehicles.

I'd check for a chafed wire to the sending unit first.

X2

I might throw a mechanical gauge on for just a quick check to make sure it has good oil pressure.
My factory oil "guess-o" gauge on the dash was reading lower than I like to see on my '91.0. I threw a hard line and aftermarket oil PSI gauge that I attached to the top of the oil filter housing to double check it. Apparently 65 PSI is less than 1/4 on the factory gauge and 35-40 PSI when the engine is hot at idle barely reads on the factory gauge.
