Question Oil leak at water pump????

I have oil leaking where the water pump goes into the block at the top part, it did it with my old water pump and with my new I just installed a month ago. Anyone have a clue what this means or if it is just as simple as tightening it???

I haven't been too far into my Cummins, but in most engines oil doesn't run anywhere near the water pump. I'd imagine it's coming from somewhere else.

thats what I thought, but I can watch it bubble slowly were the water pump flange hits the block

are you sure this isn't the weep hole on the water pump?

It's oil for sure, and I can see it bubble at the top were I said before. maybe the oil leak is near that area and the water pump is leaking a little from being to loose and its making it confusing to find??? I do understand it cant be oil where I see the leak, but there sure is fresh oil on and all around where I see it leaking.

i am having the same issue on my 02'. it actually leaks quite a bit. i wiped all the oil off the front of the motor and cleaned it up real well to get a better idea where it was comming from. took it around the block and.. well it turns out it is leaking on top of the water pump where the pump and block come together. i checked the two bolts and they were tight. i wiped it down again and this time i watched it while the motor was running and that is deffinitally where its coming from. im stumped becasue apperently there is not supposed to be oil behind the waterpump, unless the guy who owned the truck before me is running oil for antifreeze .

My bet is the leak is from a valve cover running down the block.
The bubbles you see are air in the system from changing the old pump leaking out. Eventually the air will leak out and you'll have a coolant leak from the pump.

Try taking the bolts back out and silicone them up, put them back in, I have never seen any oil leaks on mine, am on my third water pump, don't know if the bolt hole goes through or not.

I hope this didnt happen, but on mine the kdp came out and got shoved inbetween the cam gear and the timing gear housing. It cracked the housing right below the water pump couldnt see it with the belt on. Was a pretty good leak though. Might want to check that.
