OD locking itself out

I keep noticing that my OD lockout button light will come on for no reason, meaning I didnt push it. I push it in and disengage and the tranny shifts into OD, what is going on here?

Sounds like you may be getting either a short, or a bit of electrical noise. Check the wiring first, for shorts. I don't know how you would get rid of the noise to be honest, maybe someone knows the right resistor to cut it down.

I've had this too! What confuses me is that the light comes on as well, just like a ghost is pushing the button. It happens to me about 2-3 times per year. Startled my girlfriend a bit when it did it on the freeway driving home after pulling the sled an hour away... she thought the mighty Dodge might have broke[laugh]

Hopefully someone knows what's going on with this.

And it isnt like it does it when Im already in 4th locked. There is nothing to indicate that it got locked out other than me noticing the light on or waiting for it to shift and it doesnt so I look for the button being pressed. Just like a ghost!

My truck does the exact same thing, but I just press the button and it goes off. I have no idea why it happens.

I had the same thing happen today.
When the light came on, the cruise control kicked off.

I just was talking to a guy at our shop who had a '99Cummins we did the transmission for and he said about expercing this problem.
He said he purchased a box from DTT that took care of it, if I where you I'd call Stephen (sp) up @ DTT and see what the downlow is on it.

I have heard of wrapping the charging wire from the alternator with foil to lower the noise. DTT sells two things I am aware of, a noise filter and a pressure fooler. Basically the pressure fooler tricks the comp into seeing normal line pressures after the tranny has been messed with. I'm not sure which if either would cause the tranny to kick out of OD.
