NV4500 question.
NV4500 question.
Im considering putting an NV4500 in a first gen truck, My Getrag went out on me yesterday.
I know a guy with a late model GM NV4500 that was behind an 8 liter gasser. I have heard the gassers cant handle the diesel torque. Does anyone know if that trans will hold up?
I can get it for $500. Or can I buy it and put the diesel parts in it?
I was also wondering the output spline difference on my 92 4WD Dodge compared to that GM 4WD.
I have already done the 6 speed conversion in my 2WD 92.
Thanks for your help!!

As far as I know the gassers and diesels are the same. IMO the 4500s period cant handle diesel torque particulary the 5 gear setup. TCs are different as I read. There is a HD or non HD unit. Dont know if this will effect spline count.
The input shaft is different and the nv4500's built for gm have more gear. Also on the tail shaft inside the tail housing is another balancer that the dodges don't have. my 2 cents...
Thanks guys,
I found an NV4500 and bellhousing, my southbend clutch should be here anytime now. The Dodge diesel NV4500 is almost a direct swap from the Getrag.
It just needs a different engine adapter, clutch slave cylinder and clutch fork. obviously I will need the shifter as well.
