nv4500 gap between itself and engine.

I was under my truck tonight trying to get the turbo out so I can tap this pyro when i noticed that where the transmission meets the engine there is a gap on the bottom and two screws are missing. I can see a large toothed gear in there. Is this normal? it seem sstrange to me, but i don't know much about much. its not a gap all the way around but it seem like a channel or something.

There is a gap between the bellhousing and engine through which the ring gear can be seen on my '97. There is also a place for two screws there. Kind of like some applications had a shield bolted on, but our pickups don't. I don't think you have to worry.

Thanks
one less thing to worry about.
I probably screwup more things that i helped tonight trying to get these gauges in

There are three bolts under the turbo holding it in. well i don't know what i was thinging but started to remove them hoping to get the turbo out of the way. well one of them won't go back in or come out. It seems bound or something.

Thats my usual luck
