NV 4500 lost 5th gear again

NV 4500 lost 5th gear again
Lost 5th gear again, third time now. This after a longer spline shaft and double nut. Anyone have a sure fix? Or is it just time to leave it as a 4 speed? Have an auxiliary trans, so can still a reasonable speed on the highway, just not flying anymore...

a sure fix would be a different trans,like a six speed

Your truck 2WD or 4WD? If 4WD the splined locknut retainer has bee 100 percent reliable.

2wd. it lasted about 50,000 miles
