no power and blue smoke
 

i have a dodge 3500 that has been acting as if it has no boost. it runs around 1200rpm with the pedal floored. it blows blue smoke that will burn your nose if you smell it. it also runs very rough. i took the outlet pipe off the turbo to see if there was oil in it but it was clean. it also made no difference when i took the pipe off and ran the truck. the crazy thing is, is that it dont do it all the time. i was driving it about two weeks ago down my road and hit a pretty good bump and it started running like normal. had all boost back and did not smoke. what could cause this??

Could be a very simple issue or something a little more involved internally with the fuel system.

Is the shutdown solenoid pulling the fueling arm up all the way (the bump thing brings that to mind)?

How is the fuel pressure?

If you give it a squirt of wd-40 does it take off/rev up?

Anybody been playing with the AFC or it's settings lately?

Blue smoke usually means oil burning.......

Check if the small plastic tubing from the back of the injection pump is cracked or disconnected.

where is shutdown solenoid?? what is the fuel pressure supposed to be? and where are you talking about spraying wd 40? and no it was driving fine and then it just hit it. and yeah i know that the blue smoke is usually oil but why does it do it at times and then stops when truck starts to run fine?

if i spray starting fluid in it and it runs right tht would tell me its fuel related right?

Look at some Infidel's posts..........lots of pic's of fuel system. Shutdown solenoid is on the drivers side of the injection pump, it's cylindrical in a vertical fashion about the size of a baby food bottle. It has a plunger on the bottom which goes up for "on" and lets it drop for "off." I'm just guessing your's isn't moving all the way up.

Don't use starting fluid unless you make sure the grid heaters are disconnected.......could go boom..........best to just use wd-40; should give about the same result. Spray it in the intak, take one of the 1/8" pipe thread plugs out and squirt it in there, or just loosen the intake pipe rubber sleeve and have at it. With diesel starting problems you really can only have a fuel problem, no ignition stuff to worry about unless it's wore out with no compression, then there is the timing thing but you won't be able to hit a bump big enough to knock one of these back into the correct timing.

Fuel pressure should be around 25 psi and it pulses a bunch.
