No Odometer

Recently my odometer and tripometer decided to stop turning. My speedo, tach, and the rest of my dash cluster work fine though. I replaced the rear ABS/ speed sensor but still no change and traced the wiring harness as best as I could. What am I missing? I searched for a fuse or relay but can't seem to come up with anything.

Thanks in advance.

pretty self explanitory if your speedo works but the LCD display is inop. I would have to say the problem is in inst cluster.

97s don't have LCD displays, thus my question.

Pretty sure if you have Speedo but no Odo it will be a broken cluster, most drive the odo from the speedo.

Sorry, its the 97 that is in question...

Is there a way to trouble shoot this to verify it is the cluster and not another $100 sensor?

Thanks for the input

The speed sensor/sender on a 97 4X4 is on the transfer case, so you wasted some money there. When my odometer and tripmeter quit it was preceded by the speedo needle bouncing all over the place. The sender had failed internally and was sending voltage spikes to the speedometer. The odometer and tripmeter have a little dc motor that turns the gears. Mine was shot. I bought a new speedometer out of a 97 that was being parted out and installed it along with a new speed sender. Just wanted to give you a heads up on what may have caused your odometer to fail. The good news is you don't have to buy a complete gauge cluster, each gauge can be replaced individually. I would imagine that a speedo out of any 97 would work, doesn't have to be a diesel. Easy to check at a dealer by cross referencing part #s.

I "fixed" one that wasn't working simply by pulling outwards on the trip meter reset button.
It was apparently stuck between functions jamming things up.

Well that would just be to easy for me... but I will surely try it!

Games,
Thanks for the help. I will keep my eye out for a parter... Do you know a way to test the speed sender to verify if it is in fact broken (i.e. is there a specified resistance that I could test for?). My speedo works fine and have never had a problem with it so I am wondering if it could potentially just be the sender...

Thanks again

If you haven't had any speedo needle surges more than likely the sender is good, and just the little motor has burned out. There is a pick & pull near here, Belton. Don't know where you are. There is one just north of Waco also.

Games,

Thanks for the tip. I am about an hour north of Waco (in Stephenville). You got a name and number for this place?
