Need a Starter?
Just bought one, BRAND NEW, not a rebuilt, from Cummins. About $275, no core exchange needed.
I was going to buy a rebuilt from a parts house, but since I wanted to keep my old starter to rebuild with HD terminals, there was no way to do it this inexpensively, and get Brand NEW! Price a rebuilt, add the $60-$75 core charge and then its a no brainer. If you are considering a starter for your rig, I say give Cummins a call first; you may be suprised at your savings. |
Can get them cheaper here. New, with the super-sized contacts already installed. No core.

I was pretty pleased not to have to pay the shipping on this 30lb unit. Shipping to AK is always a consideration. No UPS ground, no Fed-X ground; yikes, it adds up!

Plus buying locally means you get it right now.

Got it installed this afternoon. Seems significantly quieter than the original. Cummings guy said this part # was a new one that superseded the original, has a reducing drive or such improvement. I bought this rig 2 1/2 years ago; now has 195k miles. Old starter had a brittle boot over the battery lug which broke off trying to pry it up. Must have been the original starter. Rig was a 10/94 built 95 model.
Has always started like instantaneously; now the same, just quieter. |
