New to these things, but need to remove trans and replace flex plate.
any tips?

Not into these newer pickups, but this one is a 95 3500 4 door, yes four door.
Want to get if fixed and send it down the road.

So is there anything special that I should know to remove the trans?

No. Just unbolt it.

 

if you ave a port a power you may want to use it to spread the frame rails to make it easier getn the cross-member out. and take a good look at ur cooler lines while ur in there. if you can swing a low stall converter youll be doing urself a favor as well

 

washing some of the dirt and grease that has accumulated over the years,
Have read thet the crank position sensor needs removed first, Why is this?

 

That would NOT be correct for the 94-98 model years diesel, their would be no need to remove it to pull the tranny unless you have a 5.9 gas engine.
