Mileage, AGAIN!
Re:Mileage, AGAIN!
What kind of mileage are you guys with 4x4's getting. My 95 is an automatic with 3:54 rear. When it was new it would get around 23 on the road and 17 in town. Now I get 16 all the time. It's not winter fuel, been ding this since last spring.
Has a new K&N air filter, valves just adjusted, fuel filter changed every 6K miles. Runs fine. Just sucks down fuel.

I am cutting off the cat and putting in a pipe tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas, Suggestions?

I have been that road, I bought a 95 and it only got 16 miles to gallon the reason my exwife did not wont the truck.
When I got the truck in my name and not ours I started to find the reason for the poor mileage. I did the fuel lines and the overflow, cat, muffler, aircleaner, valves settings, checked inner cooler clamps.
Finally I bought the tools from Snap On and set the timing. First use the CPL as there are two different ones for the 95. VERY IMPORTANT . Also find top dead center correctly and dont trust the timing pin as it can be off. That is the reason for poor timing when set by some or that is what I have been told. I have been told also if you wont to check the timing is to rev up the engine when it is cold ( after oil pressure is good) an observe the engine, if it revs up and no sputtering or missing then the timing is ok. If not the timing is slow.
I did not know that when I did the timing. Make SURE to clean the oil from the taper of the gear and shaft to get a good contact on the shaft. I would NOT use the needle bearing thrust washer to push the gear back on. I was told this by a very smart guy as he had one to come apart and the little @@@ needles went into the timing over. I run 17 degrees, but you need to establish top dead center to find out for sure.
I get 19.5 but never 20+ as it would only get 16 when I bought it. It is a automatic,4x4,3.54 so go figure. Wish I had a 5 speed. lol jimk
