melted fuel preheater air leak
 

finally got around to finding my air leak, and it seems to be the plastic "elbow" the connects to the fuel preheater on top of the strainer bowl. with the wiring connected it smokes! and leaks! so, should i replace everything-heater,harness,strainer,etc? i think i would rather eleminate all of the fuel heater stuff, but that still leaves me with a leak where the connector has melted. is the anyway to plug that hole, or fix that leak? i unplugged the harness for now to prevent any further melting or fire.

heres a blurry picture of the problem. the electrical connection on top with the two wires has melted a little, causing the air leak.

Unless you live in an arctic climate you don't need the heater.
It's very easy to eliminate.

thanx. i had already gotten the info from genos, but i appreciate the heater delete thread. my question is that since my leak is from the temperature sensor, how will removing the heater do anything to fix that. i would think that since the temp. sensor is on top of the housing, my leak would still be there, right?

Diagram doesn't show it well but when you get it apart you'll see that once the heater assembly is removed and the bottom bowl reattached it cuts off fuel to the sensor section of the top.

I took mine out Over three years ago and haven't missed it since. I live in Wash. state and it can get pretty cold here.
