Manual transmission oil
I don't think so. They recommend the Castrol Syntech. You can order it for $54/gal. or buy it at the dealership for $60 $15/qrt. I hate to pay that but it is a pain to take the transmission out I've done it twice already!
Good luck

Amsoil MTG 75/90, made as a direct replacement for castrol syntorque, and much cheaper. I have been using the amsoil for about 30,000 km now, and have had no trouble with it. It is formulated for the nv4500 series trans.

BTW the Syntorque is one of the very few approved oils for use in the 4500. This is beacuse of the heat range of the oil is higher than most oils due to the 4500 having special synchros.
What is the black box on the passenger side of manual transmission, looks like a filter set up. It is on the opposite side of the inspection plate. I could not find any thing in the shop manual on this. Later

There are aftermarket filter setups that install where a pto would go, sounds like you have one.
I would never even consider using anything but Castrol Syntorque in my 5 speed.
Others may say that Redline, Amsoil, etc works but doubt if many have run it 100k miles plus to really know. The material the NV syncros are made from are very specific to the lube used and slowly dissolve with the wrong fluid.
Standard Transmission http://www.standardtransmission.com/ has Syntorque for $54/ga
Don't let anyone try to sell you SynTech, it won't work.

Thanks for all your input. Got the oil changed and put a blank cover over where the filter was. Ended up using Mopar gear oil, GL-4, which was $15 dollars a quart. Does any know how much the Ams oil series 2000, synthetic, 75/90 weight, gear oil is a quart. I see it is rated GL-2 thru GL-5. Thanks agin.
Thanks for all your help. I just got a free sample magazine from TDR today, issue 33, and they really praise the Castrol Syntorq. Also got in a Geno's catalog and the filter I was talking about is in there. Holds an extra 8 oz. Later
