Lost one cylinder

So I drive the truck home, park it, go to start it in the morning and it's dead on number 3, crack the injectors and fuel comes out, so I swap injectors with one that is working and it's still dead. It's EDIT me off so I start checking things out a bit more and the fitting that is on the injection pump that runs #3 is loose, the piece that has the fitting attached to it wiggles free of the mounting flange, the rest are tight, coincidence or issue to the problem?

And what is that piece called?

Thanks
Linc

So a bit more digging and I took that piece off and the piece is broken at the oring land, which explains the misfire. I can't get the broken piece out though. Any suggestions?

Give us some info on your truck, year, etc... sounds like it's broken at the injection pump. Pull the pump and see if you can get the broke part out, if not, take it to a place that does the pumps and have them get it out.

Sounds like the bottom part of the DV holder is broken off, if there is an o-ring that you can see. That piece is torqued to 90 ft-lbs., so its pretty tight. You might be able to use an easy out in the hole to remove it, or a chisel if you're desperate, but I'd try other options first.

It's the piece that goes into the injection pump, there is a spring and a small inside. There are two nuts that hold it in place, that comes off, but the lower portion below the o ring is broken off inside.

it looks like it has a measured value to it's install.

Is it the splined piece that broke off, or is it broken where the two nuts are? Under the DV holder (the splined piece) is a spring with shims and a compression pin.

under the DV holder, the DV holder is still attached to the Barrel, but part of the barrel and the plunger is inside the pump still!

Will that barrel and plunger pop out, or is it held inside as well?

I think they do just pop out after you remove the two nuts, but at this point, it would be best sent to a pump shop so they can put the new one in and calibrate it. May as well get them to rotate the rest of the barrels and get it to flow some fuel while its there.

Thanks Tate, so I've done some research, the guys up here have NEVER seen a barrel break like that, and as long as the injection pump isn't damaged I can get a rebuilt pump for 1600 bucks, much more if it is. So now comes the arduous task of taking out the pump and checking it out, ****!

Where are you at? The is a coupld shops on Comp-d that would upgrade a pump to 13mm barrels for a little more than what you were quoted. Not that you need a 13mm pump, but you could probably get a reg rebuild for less.

I live in Kamloops BC, I might have found a good used one from the local injection shop, it's been flowed, tested and tweaked abit.
