KDP killed, and a good thing too.

I finally got the stuff to tab my KDP $40 for the seal and gasket. I dove into it this am about 10:30 had it all apart by 1:00. It took so long to get it apart because I couldn't get a 36mm wrench, so I cut one out of some 3/8" plate I had. Everything went back together nice and smooth was done and had it running by 3:30. The pin was out about 1/4" :o. So it was just a matter of time before there would have been major damage. I can now sleep knowing that it is done. It isn't that hard to do just take your time. I had a bolt left over and it was driving me nuts wondering where it was supposed to go. I finally figured out it was the bolt that I removed and replaced with a longer one with the tab. I was sweating it there for a while, about ready to take everything back off again.

Yes, now you can relax knowing that is taken care of. OK I have to confess, I discovered a lillte "L" bracket that I think helps hold the wires out of the way for the crank sensor. I found it yesterday when sweeping up the garage. Just can't remember exactly how it went on, and the fan and such are back on, so It hangs on my pegboard waiting for a time when I have it apart again, like water pump or something. But by then, I will have forgot all about it :).

1/4 inch is cutting it close. I don't know how much more pin you had left?

Your right, the best wy to describe the job is, not bad, just take your time. Rushing it will make sure you have parts left over (like me) :- God Luck, Kevin

I didn't pull the pin out I just cleaned it with some brake clean and gave it a dose of loctite and drove it back in. I've had several engines apart to repair or rebuild them. But I was amazed at the nice big gears on the front of the Cummins. That just screams heavy duty. I drove the truck to work today 70 miles round trip and no leaks. Hey I deserve a beer. ;D
