Depends, there is also a time limit on the engine warrantee. 5 yrs or 100,000 miles. I think most 12 valve motors are either out of warrantee or getting close to it.

If the damage is covered under warrantee, they replace the gear case with a new style case that has a stepped dowel pin hole that should prevent the pin from coming out.
