Fix before selling for my old man?

Looking for some advice here. I accidentally had this under the 1st gen section.

My old man's had a low miles, stock, 1996 sitting around leaking for a couple years. Unfortunately he had a massive stroke and wont be driving again. Mom says his (extra) trucks have to go. The medical bills and loss of income have put them in a jam so Id like to get the most possible for the 1996, 2500, extend cab long bed, 4x4, auto (rebuilt), 115k miles. I was able to get a month off work to move back and give them a hand.

The front main seal leaks but KDP hasn't been done. Prospective buyer would be getting in there anyway. It could use some front end work, not sure what but its steering is pretty lose. Headliner is sagging, he says it probably needs rear wheel bearings and last I heard the tps seemed to be causing a shifting issue.

Its all work I wish I had the time to do, but if it is going to get done it will be by a shop. Figuring 100 dollars hour, would it be worth it to have these repairs made before selling it? Could 2500-5000 in shop bills net him more than 2500-5000 in final sale price?

No doubt all y'all can give me is an educated guess, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

If it were me, I would get the front end fixed and at least look at the rear. Clean and adjust TPS for a quick fix and get it driving good and it should fetch a decent price tag.

Sorry to hear of your Dad's failing health.

A 96 Cummins 4x4 with 115K with minor issues would etch a decent price around here....

So sorry to hear about your dad, but he sure raised a great son!! Good, low mileage Dodge/Cummins always fetch good prices. I ditto getting some estimates on the front end. Maybe it's not as bad as he thinks. And why does he think it needs rear axle bearings? I put 250,000 miles on my '95 rear end with stock bearings with no problems. I've got 400,000 on the truck now and the 2001.5 rear end I put in has over 250,000 miles on it and the bearings are good. Why do you think his are bad?

Around here ( central Illinois ) the headliner would cost 250-300 bucks and I would say for sure a money maker, especially on a low mileage truck. The front end I would look at, say keep it under a grand and you are probably safe. I second Roberts question on the rear, unless you see the pinion seal leaking or the level is low, then I might do some investigating.

I guess the question is, what kind of condition is the truck in, where is it located, and what kind of a range do you think you want to get out of it? ( Pictures of it would do wonders right about now.)

I replaced the headliner in my truck a few years ago. I pulled the old one out in one piece, separated the fabric away from the stiff backing and just glued new fabric to it. Worked great.
