Injection pump

O.K., went to do the timing on my 78, the TDC pin is either broke or something is wrong that I can't get it to lock TDC. The balancer is off, the front cover is off, Any ideas what is the best way to go about this now?

I took the front cover off to see if I could find some marks on the gears, but I'd rather not go this route.

Suggestions before I put this thing back together?

TIA Rick

do the drop valve method, do a search, i am too lasy to type. and it is the best way besides pulling a injector.

Pull the number one injector and find TDC that way. As far as the timing pin being broken it probably is. You can replace it and the parts are not that much but it is a pain to get to. The easiest way to find TDC though is to pull the number 1 injectror and it is more acurate than the timing pin anyways.

did you pull the pin out? it is very easy to pull out and put back. just give her a good yank and it will pop out. I thought mine was broken but it was not and took 30 more minutes of fiddling with it to get it to go in.

The pin was moving in about 1/8" so I thought I had TDC, but after checking plunger lift I calculated the timing to be 23.5*. I made a few phone calls to vendors, they say this is normal. How often does the timing just automatically advance......ITSELF?

After talking with a friend from Georgia, it was decided that the best route to take would be pulling #1 injector.

Last night I pulled the inj. and found the real TDC. I went ahead and pulled the little plastic pin out of the rear of the cover.......Low and behold BROKE.
I set the dial indicator back up and rechecked. Ahhh, now I come up with 11*. Long story short, the old girl is timed with a dead KDP, and we threw in a set of 215 inj.

Can't wait to test drive

Thanks for all the suggestions guys
