How would I know if my wastegate is working or not?

If you get on it real hard and build boost, when you let off shouldn't you hear that noise?

Just wondering...

No, you may be mistaken for a pop off valve which does make a sound when the psi limit is reached and sends the air out to atmosphere. Since the wastegate opens and sends excess air out from the turbine wheel and down the exhaust pipe, it is almost 100% inaudible.

A non working wastegate will either build too much boost or stay open and not build boost. A simple run down the road with a pressure gauge will tell you if your wastegate is opening too soon or too late.

what should be the boost pressures profile and where do you attach guage?

thanks...

This link has alot of useful info pertaining to turbos and a chart for different year models.

The boost pressure can be picked up by removing the 1/2" plug from the side of the intake manifold and plumbing in a gauge.

You're probably confusing a gasoline engine with it's throttle plate(s) with a Diesel, which has no throttle plate to block the intake path - when you let off the go pedal, Boost drops because fuel rate is reduced.

If you get max 17psi, the wg is good - if you get no power and sluggish, the wg is not working

If you had a Boost gage, you wouldn't need to ask..................
