how long should it take for a 2nd Gen to start?

My dad's 1st Gen would start immedietely after turning the key. My new 2nd Gen turns several revolutions before starting.

Most start almost instantly. You may need new batteies, the overflow valve is shot or idle set too low.
Does it start faster if you depress the throttle a little?

I believe my idle could be set too low, the batteries maybe, and the overflow valve could very well be on the blink. One time the truck died when releasing throttle in reverse (see HERE), and it took longer to start than the already longer time than it does now. The truck dying is certainly not caused by the batteries, but definitely by idle speed.

Replacement takes one wrench and five minutes.

The batteries need to be good to light it up right away, they can crank it but just not fast enough when they get old. Always replace both at the same time.

Hard starting can also be caused by cracked fuel supply/return lines. Have they been replaced? If not, you can get a set from http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm
