High rpm popping

Starting at about 2500 rpm there is a loss of power and a very loud popping from the exhaust. Boost also begins to fall off when the popping starts. So far I have replaced the fuel feed and return lines, changed overflow valve, advanced timing, changed fuel filter, adjusted valves, adjusted governor arm, checked fuel presure which is about 27 psi with no change when the popping begins.

I dont know what else to try,any ideas would be great. Thanks Justin

I just did the timing last weekend it did not help at all. If I just use part throttle there is no popping but if it is floored it pops like crazy. Thanks for the input.

Ya thats what I figured also.Is there any way to check for air in the lines?I forgot I also bypassed the fuel heater to get rid of another possible air leak.

Did this start all the sudden or did you install or move something and then it started? When I first started doing mods on my truck I slid my #100 plate full forward moved the AFC forward and cranked the starwheel forward this was too much fuel the truck run like crap it was smoking really bad and popping in higher RPMs almost like it was flooding, my point is that everything full forward is not all ways a good idea.

It started after the gsk install. Im assuming it did not do it before because it was not fueling hard enough on top. The way my truck is setup it does not smoke much at all under boost just a light hase.

Mine also stutters around 2800rpm and up, but i figured its just the smaller pump... Im starting to wonder if that is it, or if i have other problems too. I also didnt notice mine until the GSK.

I droped my tank this weekend to check the pick up screen, and it looked good. I also replaced the elbow coming off the fuel heater, still no luck.

When I crack any of my injector lines I get air bubbles in the fuel. Is there a chance that my lift pump is adding air to the fuel? Thanks Justin

Check out this page, and do what he shows you to do with the fuel heater:

http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94...m-writeup.html

A lot of times those things can suck air, especially at higher RPM's because the terminals on them get burnt out. What they show you to do is cheap, and easy, so it would be well worth a try.

My truck used to start sputtering about 2800rpm under load. I havent done the fuel heater like they show yet, but I added an electric carter pusher pump and it pulls to 3400rpm smooth as butter now, even with an older fuel filter on it.

I would definately try the fuel heater trick first though. Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks man still no luck.

Can a lift pump prime button leak cause this? Its the only thing I have not tried and last I checked it was a little wet looking

Is it as easy as matching up o-rings?
Thanks a ton for any info Justin

Did you check the fuel pressure before and after?

Im sure the lift pump prime button could leak. It would probably be worth changing because it sounds like you do have a problem somewhere with air getting in.

I did check my fuel pressure. I cant remember the exact numbers, but it wasnt low in any situation, but the truck still sputtered. I may have a small air leak myself. I havent checked the fuel pressure since i put the carter fuel pump on, but I have been meaning to. I dont know if it raised the pressure any, or if maybe it is just more volume of fuel, but it definately helped.
