high E.G.T. on stock truck
my daily driver has been getting higher e.g.t every day. Friday it got up to 1400, and when I got closer to home the rubber intercooler hose blew off. could a loose hose cause the high e.g.t. or something else and if so, what? I fixed the hose that blew off and tightened the other fittings through out the intake system but cant drive the truck til tomorrow. it makes sense to me that a boost leak would cause the temp to rise, what do you guys thing?

deffiently. a boost leak will make it run hot. You should have noticed a severe lack of power too...

I guess I thought the power loss was from my foot letting the pedal up when the e.g.t. got too high. the boot made a noise when the clamp finally slipped all the way off, then the power loss was really evident. lucky for me it was 2 miles from home, and limped it there. I dont keep the 7/16 deep socket it requires to reinstall those clamps

oh yeah, you defiently blew a boot. While your under the hood, check them for splits and cuts. ;)

tend to have the boots shreded (especially the driver side one) when they rub up against the frame, there was a sharp edge on the frame that slit my boots in half, the drivers side one was lost a couple of times.. SO i suggest check both sides of where the boots are for edges.. They do tend to wear out with heat as well, and if they are the stockers chances are they are already shot.. Also u might wanna check the boots that connect the intake hat to the boost tube, those could have gotten loose as well while u are tightening up everything else. Rick |
the boots like to rub on the inner fenders... I always bend the sheet metal out of the way an extra amount just for piece of mind [coffee]

after looking at mine its the inner fenders that rub, but no cuts. they look old so I wanna put new. where is the gettin place for new boots?

Don't know if you still have one but a clogged up cat will also cause high egts. |

thanks for the links on the boots guys, my truck has no cat, it was the boost leak causing the high e.g.t.
