Help me track down a fuel leak?

Hey guys,

I have this nagging fuel leak. I've narrowed it down to the driver side of the block, somewhere between the injection pump and fuel filter. I had though it was a soft line to hard line connection, I was just in there changing my fuel filter, and that connection is tight...

I think i can feel it maybe coming from a spot up higher on the block or injection pump, but I need a picture to help me visualize what I'm feeling up there. Does anyone have a picture of that area of the motor? Anyone have any ideas?

May be that the fuel line is dry rotted and leaking. Do a search for engine diagram, there is one floating around here somewhere.

Most common problem is the 2' long 5/16" hose in the diagram below.
Make sure to use diesel rated hose. Don't trust the auto parts guy who says all hose is diesel rated, far from true.

Sure enough that was the problem. Pulled it off, cut the bad end off of it, reattached it. No more leak.

Thanks again guys!

That fuel hose is a maintenance item on the 12 valve with P7100 pump. Replacement every 60-80K miles is not unusual. The fuel line fails due to heat. Mine usually develops lots of small cracks along the entire length of the hose. Best to replace the entire hose. Larry B sells some marine grade hose that should last longer than the stock one.
